A visa is an essential document for international travel, and this includes visits to Cambodia. Almost all foreign visitors, infants and children alike, require a visa. Fortunately, securing a Cambodia visa on arrival is straightforward for most passport holders. Available at numerous border checkpoints, the process necessitates a passport with a minimum of six months' validity beyond your date of entry and a visa fee of US$30, payable in cash. This guide will provide comprehensive details on the visa on arrival procedure, covering necessary documentation, associated costs, and practical advice to ensure a seamless entry into Cambodia.

Who is Eligible for a Cambodia Visa on Arrival?

Cambodia offers a convenient "visa on arrival" option for travelers from many countries. However, there are some exceptions. Nationals of the following countries are not eligible for a Cambodian visa upon arrival:

  • Afghanistan
  • Algeria
  • Bangladesh
  • Iran
  • Iraq
  • Nigeria
  • Pakistan
  • Saudi Arabia
  • Sri Lanka
  • Sudan

If you are a citizen of one of these countries, you will need to apply for a visa in advance at the Royal Embassy of the Kingdom of Cambodia in your home country. Alternatively, you can apply through a local travel agency. Travel agencies typically provide an approval letter to support your visa application.

Visa-Free Entry:

Citizens of many countries, including all members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), can enter Cambodia visa-free for specific durations. The following table details the visa-free entry periods for these countries:

CountryDuration of Stay (Days)
Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam 30
Seychelles 15
Brunei, Myanmar, Thailand 14

Where can I get the Cambodia visa on arrival?

If you fly to Cambodia, you can obtain a visa at the Visa Counter at Cambodia international airports like Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville. You do not need to do anything in advance - you’ll be given the paperwork on the plane and you just need to get in line on arrival. The fee is US$30 (cash only) for a 30-day visa.
Obtaining a Cambodian visa is also possible at the Poipet border gate with Thailand (when you drive in from Thailand). From Vietnam, you can pass to a Cambodia via few border gates: Vinh Suong at Chau Doc (mostly people come by boat), Xa Xia at Ha Tien, or Moc Bai at Tay Ninh when you drive from Saigon. Make sure that you have a passport valid for at least 6 months from the expiry date and one recent passport-sized photo on hand. And then, it just takes you few minutes to get the visa done.

Required Documents for Cambodia Visa on Arrival

Here's a checklist for Cambodia visa on arrival requirements:

  • Valid passport with at least six months validity remaining from your planned arrival date in Cambodia
  • Two recent passport-sized photos (2" x 2")
  • Completed visa application form (provided on the plane or at the port of entry)
  • Proof of onward travel (e.g., plane ticket showing departure from Cambodia)

Cambodia visa on arrival fees

  • The fee for a Visa on arrival (VOA) is US$30 for a tourist visa and US$35 for business visas, with an additional $7 processing fee, valid for one month and extendable for an additional month. Visa payments are exclusively accepted in US dollars.

Visa on arrival services are available at the following ports of entry in Cambodia:

  • Siem Reap International Airport (REP)
  • Phnom Penh International Airport (PNH)
  • Land border crossings between Cambodia and Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam

Things to note:

  • You can obtain a visa on arrival at all major airports, land border crossings, and seaports in Cambodia.
  • Cambodian immigration officials now collect fingerprints upon entry using an inkless, electronic process.
  • Visa extensions are available for an additional 30 days once you are in Cambodia. This can be done at a Cambodian Immigration Office.

Step-by-Step Guide to Applying for Cambodia Visa on Arrival

At the Port of Entry (Airport, Land Border):

  1. Disembark and Locate Visa on Arrival Section: Follow signs for "Visa Upon Arrival" or inquire with airport staff.
  2. Queue and Collect Forms: Wait in line and collect the necessary entry/exit forms and visa application form.
  3. Complete the Forms: Fill out the forms carefully, including passport details, travel information, and contact details in Cambodia (often your hotel). For a quicker and smoother experience, we recommend filling out the declaration form as soon as you receive it from the airline staff.
  4. Attach Photos and Fee: Attach your passport photos and the required visa fee to the completed application form.
  5. Submit for Approval: Present your documents, passport, and forms to a visa officer for review and approval.
  6. Biometric Data Collection (Optional): Fingerprint scans or other biometric data collection might be required.
  7. Visa Issuance (if Approved): Upon approval, the visa will be stamped onto your passport.
  8. Proceed Through Immigration: Proceed to the immigration counter for entry clearance, presenting your visa-stamped passport and completed entry/exit forms.

Travel Information & Requirements

Cambodia is a captivating destination filled with ancient history, breathtaking temples, and stunning natural landscapes. Here’s a quick guide to help you make the most of your trip:

Top Destinations

  1. Siem Reap: Famous for the iconic Angkor Wat temple complex, Siem Reap is a paradise for history buffs and architecture lovers. Be sure to explore other magnificent temples like Ta Prohm, known for its giant tree roots, and Bayon with its enigmatic smiling faces.
  2. Phnom Penh: The bustling capital offers a blend of historical and cultural attractions. Visit the Royal Palace, take a somber tour of the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, and enjoy the vibrant nightlife and delicious street food.
  3. Sihanoukville: Renowned for its picturesque beaches and lively atmosphere, Sihanoukville is ideal for unwinding by the sea and indulging in various water activities like snorkeling and diving.
  4. Battambang: Experience traditional Cambodian life in this charming city, featuring French-colonial architecture, serene countryside, and off-the-beaten-path jungle temples.
  5. Tonle Sap Lake: The largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia is known for its unique floating villages. A boat tour offers an intriguing glimpse into the daily lives of local communities.

Best Time to Visit

  • November to February: This is Cambodia's dry season, making it the perfect time for sightseeing and outdoor adventures, with cooler temperatures and clear skies.

Travel Tips

  • Dress Modestly: When visiting temples, wear clothing that covers your shoulders and knees out of respect for local customs.
  • Safety First: Keep an eye on your belongings, especially in crowded areas. Avoid walking alone at night in unfamiliar places.
  • Try Local Cuisine: Don’t miss out on traditional Cambodian dishes like fish amok, a creamy coconut curry, or Khmer curry, which is milder and often served with rice or noodles.
  • Getting Around: Tuk-tuks and motorbikes are popular for short trips. For longer journeys, consider hiring a car with a driver or taking a bus.
  • Visa Requirements: To enter Cambodia, a visa is required, and you can apply online or upon arrival at major entry points. There are two main types:
    • Tourist Visa (T): This single-entry visa costs $36 (including a $6 processing fee), is valid for 3 months from the issue date, and allows a stay of up to 30 days. A passport valid for at least six months, a digital passport-sized photo, and a valid credit card are required. Citizens from several Southeast Asian countries, including Vietnam, Thailand, and Singapore, are exempt.
    • Business Visa (E): This single-entry visa costs $42 (including a $7 processing fee), is valid for 3 months from the date of issue, and also allows a 30-day stay. The requirements are similar: a passport with six months of validity, a digital photo, and a credit card for payment.
  • E-Arrival Card: If you're flying into Cambodia, complete an e-Arrival Card (CeA) online within seven days of your arrival.
  • Registration: All visitors must be registered with the Foreigner Present in Cambodia System (FPCS). Your hotel or host will usually handle this process.
  • Health Precautions: Stay up to date on vaccinations, including those for hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and typhoid fever. Avoid swimming in freshwater lakes or rivers due to the risk of schistosomiasis, a parasitic infection.
  • Beat the Crowds: To avoid large crowds at popular sites like Angkor Wat, plan your visit early in the morning. For a quieter experience, take a midday break and explore less crowded spots during peak hours.
  • Sunrise at Angkor Wat: Many visitors recommend starting your first day with a sunrise tour of Angkor Wat. The ticket lines are usually shorter early in the morning, and the sight of the sun rising behind the ancient temple is unforgettable.
